What is included in the kit?

Each kit includes the ADVANCED version of my wedding planning workbook. This workbook covers things like finding the perfect vendors, allocating your budget according to your priorities, how to write your vows, creating a day-of timeline with your vendors, and much more. There are more than ten worksheets for you and your partner to complete together to help you establish healthy communication habits and practice making life decisions as a team. Outdoor weddings are becoming increasingly popular, especially with coronavirus still at large. These often spacious venues make it easier for social distancing and also incorporate the element of fresh air into the mix. Additionally, nature can effortlessly provide a stunning backdrop for your beautiful day of celebration! Whether you opt to go with a nature-inspired venue due to budget constraints or personal preference, there are many details that often go overlooked that can easily help ensure that your special day is remembered for all the right reasons.

1. Consider your start time

Many wedding ceremonies often begin around 4:30-5 pm; however, this is often the warmest part of a summer day and can result in a seriously sweaty soiree. I've never met a bride or groom that is immune to a little perspiration while wearing a 3-piece suit or heavily-beaded wedding gown, especially when the sun is showing off by creating the ideal conditions for a perfectly sidewalk-cooked egg. Just as you don't want to be uncomfortable during your ceremony, your guests don't either. Not to mention that your photos may be littered with guests' pit stains, fallen hairstyles, harsh lighting, and melting mascara. On the flip side, the light fades much earlier during the winter, which could cause challenges for your photographer. Coordinate with your photographer to research the typical time for sunset and create a timeline based around the perfect lighting coupled with the most comfortable temperatures.

2. Paperweights are required

For some strange reason, every couple seems to think that their wedding will be immune to weather complications. This is rarely the case, but there are countless small things that you can do to avoid the most common inconveniences. One of these small things is to incorporate paperweights that will withstand the occasional breeze. Take advantage of this opportunity to spice up your tablescape with fun details such as a vibrate agate, miniature potted succulents, a small bag of your favorite coffee beans, or maybe even an array of seashells. These tiny tokens can double as a favor and will keep your menu cards and napkins from being disturbed. Hopefully, through this illustration you can see why expecting your guests to walk a half-mile on a gravel pathway in their finest attire is ludicrous. Consider providing a shuttle service or valet parking to ensure that your guests have enough of a pain-tolerance left to tear up the dance floor when the time comes.

5. Protect your delicates

I know what you're thinking, you perv. Get your mind out of the gutter, because I'm talking about cake! Wedding cakes can often be quite a visual spectacle, which means that you will probably want some amazing photos to document its full glory before your guests dig in. Unfortunately, buttercream and sweltering heat don't play well together. Work with your cake provider to determine a delivery time that will ensure your cake is in mint condition. You may need to ask your venue if there is an onsite building with air conditioning or plan for some sort of awning to protect your delicate dessert.

While there are a variety of other elements that should be considered when planning for an outdoor wedding, hopefully, these points get your mind turning in the right direction and lead you and your sweetheart down a path of thoughtful innovation for an enjoyable celebration. Congratulations! You and your sweetheart have decided on forever and are now starting to mull around a few ideas regarding the wedding. Whether or not hiring a wedding planner is something that either of you has considered, read why hiring a wedding planner should be non-negotiable.

While stress truly has become unavoidable in today's world, that doesn't mean that you can't find ways to mitigate it. Hiring a wedding planner is a great option to maintain enough energy to fuel the positive momentum in your relationship and personal goals! Professional wedding planners are experts at helping you feel supported and informed, which are two critical factors for feeling in control. You work hard for your money, and I don't want you to feel as though you are wasting it! I believe that each wedding should be uniquely tailored to the couple that you are working with. Every couple will value each element of their wedding differently. Some couples will put a live band at the top of their priority list, while others may have a five-course seated dinner as their highest priority. Some couples may opt to host a weekend of memorable experiences, while others may opt for an intimate vow exchange celebrated with local wine and cheese. For this reason, I love to work with my clients to better understand which elements they both value and how their budget should be allocated based on what is most important to them. Beyond this, a wedding planner should help you keep track of your wedding spend and make intentional adjustments when necessary to ensure the budget is respected.

3) Industry Experts Aren't Born, They're Made From Years of Experience and Countless Failures

I know it's a strange phenomenon, but when you live and breathe weddings on a daily basis, you tend to become a bit of an expert. Ironically enough, most couples only plan 1-3 weddings throughout the course of their life. I don't know about you, but attempting to become an industry expert overnight to simply plan your own wedding seems to be quite an inefficient approach. A talented wedding planner will use each wedding and each failure as a learning experience to enhance their ongoing list of "lessons-learned". I know that the idea of failure when it comes to your wedding may ignite a little fear, but failure from time to time is inevitable. However, the difference between an amateur and an event professional is their ability to navigate failure in a graceful and innovative manner that goes completely unnoticed by those in attendance. After some time in the industry, seamless pivoting becomes second nature and your services offered become more refined and of higher quality.

While we're on the topic of industry experts, sometimes the price of a wedding planner may seem steep, but it's important to consider their past experiences. How many years have they been in the industry? What are their past career endeavors that may enhance their offerings? Do they have an educational background that contributes to their expertise? A culmination of applicable past experiences makes for a professional that you can trust. These past experiences are also why there are countless options when it comes to hiring a wedding planner. Finding someone that you connect and resonate with is essential! Do your research and find a planner that YOU can trust.

No matter, which way you look at it, relationships require constant work and effort. I strongly believe that making your relationship a top priority is the only way to ensure its success. The tricky part is that we are all constantly being pulled in so many different directions, that it's incredibly easy to get sidetracked. Add into the mix, the struggle of navigating your future in-laws, moving in together, and trying to figure out how to plan a wedding. These monumental life-changes often trigger fear, break open old wounds, and lead to a sense of overwhelm. Choosing to neglect these challenges can result in emotional outbursts, a lack of mutual understanding, and a sense of divide between you and your future spouse. On the flip side, working through these pivotal times together as a united team can help in creating a rock-solid foundation for your marriage to be built upon.

I have found that planning a wedding can create the ideal environment for couples to grow together, or to grow apart. In a lot of traditional relationships, it's not uncommon for the future groom to "gift" his bride-to-be free reign when it comes to wedding planning. I feel that this is such a missed opportunity to learn more about each other and how your individual styles and preferences compliment one another! I'm not sure about you, but in a world where a large majority of marriages end in divorce, I want to give my relationship a fair shot by starting things off on the right foot. To me, that means setting the tone by learning how to work through times of stress/change together as a team right off the bat.
